More going into my art journal

I must be on a roll. It's a getting a bit easier to create and finish little art journal pages these days. I don't have so many unfinished pages cluttering my table anymore.

This is a good thing, because I'm hosting a playdate later this week and I need to clean up my painting, art journaling and stitching stuff. Everything is accumulating on the dining room table and the floor. It's getting worse by the day and the only thing that saves my husband's sanity is having people over, even it's the little kind  :)

I know some bloggers artistically photograph their messes and then show a beautiful post photo after clean up. I thought about that. But honestly, I'm too embarassed to show my junk - that is what my husband calls it. My kids lovingly defend me by calling it art stuff. But I know, I gotta clean up!

Anyway, let me just show you a few pages that will go into my journal today. And then I'll clean up :)

The bottom two pages contain cutouts from an old Cookie magazine. It seriously had a lot of beautiful high end ads - great for journaling. However, I am in a "fall cleaning" mood; I'm trying to get rid of as much useless things as I can. So I tore out 2 pages to be used immediately and recycled the magazine :)

Now on to more cleaning!

PS. Oh yeah, a few days ago I promised myself to work on my owl paintings. I'll keep out enough painting materials to do that in the evenings. I hope that is not going to grow into a big mountain by the end of the week *eek*

The creative muscle

I think there is truth to when people say that creativity is like a muscle and you must exercise it to be able to use it well. This week I have made time every day to work on my art journal. They've only been short period of times, but effective ones.

Today I haven't felt the usual "fear". I didn't keep questioning myself: Am I doing this right? Does this look good? Is this really what I wanted? Would anyone else like this? ... I have a million of those questions that usually stop me from creating.

I'm going to keep this week easy. I'll keep working on small spaces, exercising my creative muscles. And hopefully I'll continue and finish my owl paintings next week. Without questions, without doubt. With an open heart, with lots of spirit and energy :)

Remember this stitching project?

It's finished! Head over here to see it :)

Today ...

... I'm declaring these pages to be finished!

These were all painted on those coasters that I nabbed from the Yardhouse :)

On to the next!

Yes, it's true ...

I am going to Spark!

I can't believe it! I have been wanting to go since last year, when -it seemed as if- the whole creative community was blogging about Spark 2. It looked so fun and beautiful and inspiring.

However, I have 2 young kids AND I have never left them (except for one weekend when Jasmine was 10 months old and Alex was not yet in our lives). That and it seemed a little self- indulgent to be travelling all the way to Utah for a creative weekend just for fun, just for me. So I put it away on my long wish list of things to do one day.

But then ... I asked and I received. Hubby is graciously taking a couple of days off to take care of the munchkins and letting me have uninterrupted fun all the way in Utah. *eeek* I'm so excited! Thank you hubby!

Of course, I haven't told the kids yet ... now, how to do this?

These days I seem to only have time to make cards. I have a made a few, but this particular one I love. It went to congratulate a lovely couple who got married last weekend.

These days I love mixing geometric designs with floral designs. It looks fresh and contemporary.

I also have a new love for orange. It's strange considering I have always disliked orange and brown since I was a kid. Oh yes, I love brown, too, now. Particularly when mixed with pink or baby blue. What's up with that? My taste in food has also changed drastically since I was kid. I must be getting older! :)

Working on art journal pages

Oh goodness I haven't painted for days! Lots of excuses, but let me not list them here. It goes on forever.

So now that I finally have a moment to paint my hands feel so stiff and unsure. I decided to go with painting more art journaling pages to exercise my painting muscles. I find it fun and easy because the surface is much smaller. And there is also less pressure, because I don't aim to hang any of it on my wall :) Whereas I truly hope that my canvases are good enough for my wall or good enough to gift to a special person.

These are all still work in progress. Sometimes I get distracted by the things that, well, I must do, like laundry ;)

Have you noticed how much I love my dotted stamp? I highly recommend it, if you are a mixed media artist or card maker. It's by Inkadinkado.
